Worker screening is a critical compliance obligation for NDIS providers. Getting it wrong can result in serious consequences for both participants and your organisation.
Who Needs Screening
All workers in risk-assessed roles must hold a valid NDIS Worker Screening Check. This includes anyone who provides direct support to NDIS participants, as well as key personnel such as board members and senior managers.
The Screening Process
The NDIS Worker Screening Check is conducted by the relevant state or territory screening unit. Workers apply directly, and providers must verify the outcome before the worker commences in a risk-assessed role.
Ongoing Obligations
Screening is not a one-time event. Providers must maintain records of all worker screening checks, monitor expiry dates, and ensure workers are re-screened before their check expires. Failure to do so can result in compliance action.
NDIStress members receive regular updates on worker screening requirements and practical guidance on maintaining compliant records.
